This tutorial will show you how to set up the ExpressVPN app on your Amazon Fire TV by sideloading the Android app. “Sideloading” refers to the process of downloading an application in APK format and manually installing the file on an Android device. APK files are typically downloaded from websites other than the Google Play Store.
To complete the installation, you will need a computer connected to the internet and a USB flash drive, along with a mouse that you can plug into your Amazon Fire TV. You will use the computer to download the file, then transfer it to the Amazon Fire TV using the USB drive.
Note: Your flash drive must be formatted in the FAT32 format to work with your Amazon Fire TV.
Warning: If you plug in an unreadable flash drive, your Amazon Fire TV will automatically offer to reformat it. Reformatting the flash drive will erase all of its contents.
Note: If you want your Amazon Fire TV streaming media player to stream content from a specific country, then set the same country for your VPN server address and Amazon Country Settings.

Download the APK file on your computer
On your computer, open the Welcome Email you received when you signed up for ExpressVPN. Click the link in the email.

If you can’t find the link, sign in to your account here.

Click the Android section, and then click Download APK to start downloading the APK file.

Transfer the APK file to your USB flash drive
When the file has finished downloading, plug a flash drive into your computer and transfer the APK file you just downloaded onto the flash drive.
Eject the flash drive from your computer.
If you’re on a Windows machine, you can do so by clicking the eject icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen.

When the screen flashes, “Safe to Remove Hardware,” you may remove the flash drive safely.
If you are on a Mac, drag the desktop flash drive icon to the trash. When the flash drive entirely disappears from the desktop, you can remove the flash drive safely.

Make sure your Country Settings are correctly set
Sign in to your Amazon account on https://www.amazon.com/.
Go to Your Account > Digital Content > Manage Your Content and Devices > Settings > Country Settings.
Click Change.
Set your address according to the regional Amazon catalog you want to access. Later, you will want to select a VPN location in the country that matches this address .
Click Update to save your changes.
Set up 1-Click for buying movies
Go to Your Account > Settings > 1-Click Settings.
If you want to purchase movies from Amazon Instant Video, make sure the address in your 1-Click Settings matches your Country Settings.

Allow Amazon Fire TV to install apps from unknown sources
Turn on your Amazon Fire TV. Go to Settings > Device.
 

Scroll down to Developer options.

Select Apps from Unknown Source.

 
You will be warned that installing applications from unknown sources can result in security issues and possible unexpected device behavior. Select Turn On to proceed. ExpressVPN recommends using caution when downloading or clicking on untrusted links.

Download ES File Explorer
Return to your Amazon Fire TV’s home screen. Click the magnifying glass icon and search for “Es Explore.”

The top result under “Apps & Games” should be ES File Explorer File Manager, a free app that lets you manage files on your Amazon Fire TV.
Note: ExpressVPN is not affiliated with ES File Explorer File Manager. You are free to use whatever file managing app you choose to complete the sideloading process.

Select the app and choose Download.

Once the app has finished downloading, click Open.

Install ExpressVPN APK
Plug your flash drive into your Amazon Fire TV. It should appear in ES File Explorer File Manager as usbdisk, or as whatever you named it. Click on it to open it.

You should see a file with the name expressvpn_#####apk.apk (The number in the filename will vary depending on the version you’ve downloaded). Click to open the file.

A pop-up will display the APK file’s properties. Select Install.

You’ll see a message detailing the features the app requests to access. Click INSTALL.

When the app has finished installing, select Done.

Activate the ExpressVPN app
You will need to use your mouse to activate ExpressVPN. If your Amazon Fire TV only has one USB slot, you’ll need to remove your flash drive before proceeding.
To eject the flash drive from your Amazon Fire TV, return to the home screen and select Settings > Device > USB Storage.

Select Eject USB Storage.

You can now safely remove your USB flash drive.
Now plug in your mouse in the USB slot.
Return to ES File Explorer File Manager. Go to APP.

Select ExpressVPN. Note that after you open the ExpressVPN app for the first time, an ExpressVPN icon will appear on the Amazon Fire TV home screen.

In the pop-up, select Open.

The ExpressVPN app will launch.
Note: Because this APK file is usually meant for Android phones and tablets, the app may appear distorted on your TV screen.
Use your mouse to click Log In.

Click the Email text field with your mouse and use the Amazon Fire TV remote to enter the email associated with your ExpressVPN account.

Enter your ExpressVPN password.
Click Log In with the mouse.
The app will activate.
Your app will ask if you’d like to share anonymous information to help make ExpressVPN faster and more reliable. Click Allow if you’d like to share anonymous analytics.

Connect to a VPN server location
To connect to a VPN server location, tap the ON button. By default, ExpressVPN will suggest a Smart Location, the location that will  provide you with the most optimal experience.

Once you see the VPN is ON message, you can begin surfing with freedom and security!

Disconnect from a VPN server location
To disconnect from the VPN server, tap the ON Button while the VPN is on.

You will know you are disconnected when you see the “VPN is OFF” message.

To choose a different location, click Choose location and select a VPN location from the list.

How to uninstall ExpressVPN from your Amazon Fire TV
Return to ES File Explorer File Manager and open the ExpressVPN app.

In the pop-up, choose Uninstall.

Another pop-up will appear asking you to confirm if you want to uninstall the app. Choose OK.

The app is now deleted from your Amazon Fire TV.
