How to Pair iPhone/iPad and Google Smart Speaker with Bluetooth

I would guess that there are many of you out there that own and iPhone/iPad and have a Google Home/Mini/Hub but don’t have them connected via Bluetooth.
The guide below will show you how to connect these items together using Bluetooth so you can cast audio that your smart speaker might not otherwise play.
I use this for casting audiobooks from my Audible app as I love litening to my audiobooks but my Google Home Hub doesn’t play content from Audible. You can of course use it for casting other audio from your iPhone/iPad that your smart speaker might not play.

Check that Bluetooth is enabled on your iPhone/iPad. The quickest way is to swipe up from the bottom of your screen and check in the command centre. If the Bluetooth icon is blue then it is on. If it isn’t then click on it and switch it on

Now stand next to your Google Home/Mini/Hub and say “Hey Google, Pair Bluetooth”

Your smart speaker will now tell you to open Bluetooth and look for the name of your device.

So open Settings on your iPhone/iPad

Now select Bluetooth

Now look for the name of your Smart Speaker and select it

You are now connected via bluetooth and can cast any audio from your iPhone/iPad to your Smart Speaker. You will get a visual indication if using a hub or an audible notification if using the Home/Mini

And that is how easy it is to do. I can now start listening to my audiobooks through my smart speakers

Assignable Reminders from Google

A great new feature is coming to Google Assistant on phones/smart speakers/hub – Assignable Reminders. This feature will allow you to send reminders to family members and once assigned they will get a visible/audible reminder to carry out the task you have set.
Assignable reminders on the Google Assistant help families and housemates better collaborate and stay organized while at home or on the go. This means you can now create reminders for your partner or roommate to do things like pick up the groceries, pay a recurring bill, walk the dog—or send them a note of encouragement when they need it the most (“Hey Google, remind Mary that she will do great on tomorrow’s exam.”) The feature will be available over the next few weeks in English on phones, speakers and Smart Displays in the U.S., U.K. and Australia, and will work with Google Nest Hub Max when it’s available later this autumn.
This feature will also work for location-based reminders with a specific address or landmark. For example, if you want to remind Claire to pick up flowers—and you don’t know the exact time she’ll be going shopping—just say, “Hey Google, remind Claire to pick up flowers when she gets to the San Francisco Ferry Building.” The Assistant will then create a reminder that will pop-up for Claire when the Assistant recognizes that she has arrived at the Ferry Building.
You can send and receive reminders only from people who are in your Google family group or those who have their accounts linked to the same Smart Display or speaker as you and are Voice Matched. The recipient must also be in a senders’ Google Contacts. For parents who want to give their kids access to the Assistant on Google Home, you can create an account for kids under 13 (or the applicable age in your country) through Family Link, then link their Google Account and voice to Google Home. In addition, you have the control to block anyone from sending you reminders at any time through the new Assignable reminders section in Assistant Settings.

Password Checkup Extension for Chrome

Password Checkup helps you re-secure accounts that have been affected by data breaches.

Wherever you sign-in, if you enter a username and password that is no longer safe due to appearing in a data breach known to Google, you’ll receive an alert. Please reset your password. If you use the same username and password for any other accounts, please reset your password there as well.

Password Checkup was built with privacy in mind. It never reports any identifying information about your accounts, passwords or device. We do report anonymous information about the number of look-ups that surface an unsafe credential, whether an alert leads to a password change, and the domain involved for improving site coverage. You can learn more about how Password Checkup works at https://support.google.com/accounts?p=password-checkup.

You can download this Chrome extension from the Chrome Webstore.

History Navigation with Gesture Flag for Chrome

The History with Gesture flag for Chrome is a flag that can be enabled on your mobile device at chrome://flags/#enable-gesture-navigation. This is for devices running the stable channel of Chrome.  If you are using Chrome beta or Dev then the flag has a different name so you will need to go to chrome://flags/#overscroll-history-nagivationWith this flag enabled you will be able to swipe right or left to go back to a previous page or go forward again respectively. When you swipe you will see a small circle with an arrow pointing the way you are navigating. To enable you just need to paste the URL above into the chrome browser on your mobile device. Then click on default and change to enabled. Once you have done this click on restart browser and the swipe navigation will be enabled. This is a great little feature that has been expected for a while but it is good to see that is now ready to go. I’ll start posting more flags soon as they are a great way to get the best out of your Chrome browser

Choose Smart Light Colours with Google Home

The Google Home App has come a long way from the days it was just used for setting up new smart devices. In the latest update (v2.9) you can now choose the colours of your smart bulbs (as long as they support multiple colours of course). For a long time you could just turn them on and off but that is no longer the case.Even if your lights are from different brands you can adjust them all from one place and not have to open up multiple apps to change the colour/brightness.At this present time you cannot change tints but hopefully that will be something that is added to the Google Home App in the near future. To change colours through the app is very simple.Open the Google Home AppSelect any of the bulbs in your list of lightsSelect ColourNow choose from the selection of coloursAs easy as 1,2,3….4. So there we have a nice little addition to the Google Home app. I am looking forward to this adding more features.
