This guide shows you how to change settings on your DD-WRT ExpressVPN Router App.
Important: Make sure you’re using the ExpressVPN DD-WRT router app. After signing into www.expressvpnrouter.com, you should see VPN, Setup, Wireless, Services, Security, Administration, and Status in the top menu bar. If not, follow the OpenWRT router app instructions.

Change the Wi-Fi/SSID name

Change the Wi-Fi/SSID name
Click Wireless along the top menu and make sure you’re at Basic Settings.

Next to Wireless Network Name (SSID), enter the new Wi-Fi name/SSID for the network of your choosing.

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Apply Settings.

Change the Wi-Fi/SSID password
Click Wireless along the top menu and select Wireless Security on the left.

Next to WPA Shared Key, enter the new Wi-Fi password for the network of your choosing.

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Apply Settings.

Change the router admin password
Click on Administration along the top menu.
Under Router Password, enter and confirm your new password.

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Apply Settings.

Reset the router
Sometimes, you may need to reset your router. If you can access the expressvpnrouter.com interface, perform the soft reset. If you cannot access the expressvpnrouter.com interface or the soft reset does not work, perform the hard reset.
Soft reset
Select VPN along the top menu. In the side bar, click ExpressVPN Help & Support.

Click Reset firmware to default settings. When asked to confirm, click Reset firmware to default settings.

Hard reset
Press and hold the router reset button (located on the back of the router) for 10 seconds.

How to Reset Your Asus and Netgear Routers to the Original Firmware

This guide will show you how to reset your Asus and Netgear routers to the original firmware from the ExpressVPN app for routers firmware.
Note: This guide only applies for the following routers:
Asus RT-AC68U, RT-AC87U, RT-AC56R, RT-AC56S, and RT-AC56U
Netgear R6300v2 and Nighthawk R7000
Step 1: Go to www.expressvpnrouter.com using the router’s Wi-Fi connection. On the page, select Administration and then Firmware Upgrade.

Step 2: In the drop down, select Reset to Default settings and find the original Asus or Netgear firmware to flash to.
Important: Make sure you’re downloading and using the correct firmware for your router model.
Step 3: Click Upgrade and wait while the firmware is uploaded. You will be asked to verify the file flashing. Click Proceed to continue.

Step 4: When the flash is complete, you will be notified that you are not connected to the router. This is normal. Connect to the Asus or Netgear router’s Wi-Fi and set your router login information if prompted.

Step 5: You should have full internet access now. If you have trouble accessing your router dashboard later, see instructions on how to find your router’s default gateway.

How to bridge devices to your wireless network via an ExpressVPN router

This article will show you how to connect your ExpressVPN router to the internet without connecting the router to a modem. You can then connect your devices to the ExpressVPN router and use the web securely. This is a process known as bridging.
Note: A bridged connection is slightly slower and less reliable than a cabled ethernet connection.
To connect your ExpressVPN router to the internet without connecting the router to a modem, follow these steps:
Connect your laptop, phone, or tablet to your ExpressVPN router’s Wi-Fi network.
Go to www.expressvpnrouter.com and log in using the username “admin” and the 8-digit password found on the bottom of your router.
At the top of the page, click “Network”, then select “Wifi” in the left sidebar.
Under “Wireless Overview”, find the SSID you want to use and click “Scan”. Note that radio0 is for 5GHZ signal and radio1 is for 2.4GHZ signal.
Select the Wi-Fi network you want to connect to (e.g. your home Wi-Fi network) and click “Join Network”.
In the WPA passphrase, enter the network password for the Wi-Fi network you selected. Name the new network wwan and click “Submit”.
Click “Save and apply”.
Now you can connect another device you want to use to the router. You should be able to surf the web with this “bridged” device.
To verify that your device is connected to the router, you can use the IP checker to see if you are properly connected to an ExpressVPN server location.

No. You can connect as many devices as you want to the Linksys router. As long as the ExpressVPN App for Router is running, each and every connected device will be protected.

Can I select which devices are protected by the router? Can this be done on the original Linksys firmware?

You can choose which devices are protected by your router after flashing to the ExpressVPN firmware by performing the below:
Log in to expressvpnrouter.com
Go to VPN Options in the left side-bar
Select Let me select which devices should be protected
Scroll down to Recently Connected Devices and toggle protection ON or OFF for each connected device.
You cannot choose which devices are protected by VPN using the original Linksys firmware because it does not have any VPN capabilities on its own.

Some users may have trouble accessing linksyssmartwifi.com or expressvpnrouter.com. You can still access your router’s settings via it’s default gateway. Learn how to find your router’s default gateway.
