Learn the principles of accessibility in free four-week online course

Sign up today for the online, asynchronous course, Accessibility 10: Principles of Inclusive Design, from March 4 through March 29.  Expected times commitments are 2-4 hours per week. This course will cover the basics of accessibility and universal design for learning, creating accessible documents and email, and accessible web and Canvas content, including how to get started.

UW joins national movement calling for K-12 computer science education to be accessible

A program led by the University of Washington and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, calls for K-12 computing curriculum to be more accessible and bring computer science (CS) education to all K-12 students. The program, AccessCSforAll, is also partnering with a consortium of computer science K-12 educators. More than 100 organizations have signed the pledge, which addresses the educational gap and barriers to computer science education for students with disabilities.

Holiday Toy Hackathon helps make play possible for kids with disabilities

Student volunteers at the Holiday Toy Hackathon modified store-bought toys to make them accessible for kids with motor limitations or developmental disabilities. The Nov. 11 event was sponsored by the Taskar Center for Accessible Technology in partnership with the HuskyADAPT student organization (short for Accessible Design And Play Technology). Trailblazers honored for efforts to forge new paths for people with disabilities

Four individuals were honored with “Trailblazer” awards by the DO-IT (Disabilities, Opportunities, Internetworking, and Technology) Center for the work they do to change how the world views people with disabilities and to increase the potential of people with disabilities to succeed in college, careers, and community life. The Trailblazer award winners were Shiri Azenkot (Cornell Tech, Cornell University), Courtney Cole (DO-IT ambassador and 2013 Scholar), Shaun Kane (University of Colorado Boulder) and John Kemp (American Association of People with Disabilities).
