Join a workshop from 10-11:30 a.m. in Odegaard 102 to learn how to create accessible Word and PowerPoint documents, use the built-in accessibility checker, and export these to create accessible PDF documents. All document creators, from faculty and staff to students, are required to make sure that documents are accessible to individuals who use assistive technology.

A new National Science Foundation grant will support an initiative to ensure computing courses are accessible to K-12 students who are blind, deaf or have reading-related disabilities. The grant was awarded to the UW Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science and Engineering and the UW’s Disabilities, Opportunities, Internetworking, and Technology Center (DO-IT). Visit the UW’s accessibility technology website to learn how your unit can comply with the state accessibility policy and ensure that University IT resources are usable to all people, including those with disabilities. All UW units must ensure that information technology resources are usable by people with disabilities. The website includes information on Accessibility Policy #188, adopted in 2016 by the Washington State Office of the Chief Information Officer. The policy covers websites, web-based applications, e-documents, multimedia and more.

You can apply to have your UW video captioned by UW-IT’s Accessible Technology Services for no charge, making it more accessible to everyone. Eligible videos must be widely available and used multiple times. More than 450 videos from UW departments and units have already been captioned for free, totaling over 140 hours.
